NSS Jayanthi Celebrations 2025 – Unity and Service in Action
On November 2nd, 2025, the Nair Service Society (NSS) marked its annual Jayanthi Celebrations—also called NSS Day or NSS Foundation Day—with vibrant programs that showcased the community’s dedication to social welfare, cultural heritage, and environmental consciousness. Held under the leadership of President Kannatt Surendran, General Secretary M. K. Sasi Kumar, and Treasurer P. Sethumadhavan, the event was a resounding success, affirming NSS’s continuing mission of unity and progress for the Nair community in Telangana.
Opening Ceremony: Symbol of Unity
The day began with a solemn flag hoisting ceremony, where President Kannatt Surendran spoke about the foundational values of NSS—unity, self-empowerment, and service. His inspiring words energized attendees, reminding them of the visionary leadership of Mannath Padmanabhan, the Society’s founder. The NSS anthem was sung with fervor, echoing through the gathering and setting a spirited tone for the day.
A memorable moment occurred when a group of youth volunteers from various Karayogams shared their stories on how NSS initiatives have helped them pursue education and leadership roles. One young participant recounted how NSS scholarship support enabled her to continue medical studies, embodying the Society’s commitment to empowering the next generation.
Cultural and Social Programs
The celebration featured traditional dance performances, including the graceful Thiruvathira, performed by community women dressed in vibrant Kerala sari attire. These cultural displays were met with enthusiastic applause and reinforced the importance of preserving Nair heritage.
Short drama skits were enacted showcasing themes of social equality and environmental responsibility. One popular skit highlighted the damaging effects of plastic pollution and encouraged audience members to commit to sustainable practices. Following this, a lively tree planting drive was organized, symbolizing NSS’s pledge to environmental conservation.
Health and Environment Awareness
Health is a priority for NSS, and the 2025 event included interactive sessions on hygiene and preventive care. A local health expert demonstrated simple daily practices to prevent illnesses, which was especially appreciated by elder members of the community. Attendees received informative pamphlets on sanitation and nutrition, reflecting NSS’s dedication to creating a healthier society.
Environmental awareness campaigns focused on waste segregation and water conservation. A hands-on workshop showed participants how to compost organic waste at home, a popular highlight that sparked much interest.
Engagement and Leadership
General Secretary M. K. Sasikumar encouraged the youth present to take active roles in community development, while Treasurer P. Sethumadhavan discussed plans to expand NSS’s reach through more Karayogams. The leadership emphasized collective responsibility and the importance of every member’s contribution to the Society’s growth.
One touching anecdote came from an elder Karayogam leader who recounted decades of witnessing the community’s transformation and expressed hope that today’s generation would continue the legacy of service and unity.
A Day of Inspiration
NSS Jayanthi 2025 was not just a celebration; it was a reaffirmation of the Nair Service Society’s enduring spirit. The event blended cultural pride with social action, inspiring members of all ages to work towards a stronger, healthier, and more inclusive community. With renewed energy and shared commitment, NSS stands ready to face future challenges, guided by the principles of unity and service that have defined it for over a century.
